Any foreign object to the body takes time to settle down. It may take several days or weeks to get complete used to them. Adaptation varies with different persons and often time and experience are essential before dentures can be worn comfortably and function effectively.
Useful tips for new dentures:
Food – Having food after having dentures done usually takes a bit of practice at the beginning. General advice is to begin with soft foods and foods that are cut into small pieces. It is recommended to chew slowly using both sides of your mouth at the same time to prevent dentures from tipping.
The way you talk – Dentures may alter your speech in the beginning. Suggestion is to read out loud and repeating words will speed up the acquaintance. The speech adaptation is just for few weeks and then you start talking normally.
Increased saliva flow – There is a possibility that one may experience an increase in salivary flow when the dentures are first implanted. This is absolutely natural response of the salivary glands and it will be normal within few weeks after the procedure.
Sore spots – Dentures may cause minor irritation on pressure spots, these are usually caused by surface irregularities on the denture-bearing. The dentist will relieve the discomfort by adjusting the denture surface. Stop wearing the denture if the irritation is very painful. Consult your dentist immediately.
